ICI Names Jennifer S. Choi Chief Counsel, ICI Global 

Washington, DC, 11 December 2017—The Investment Company Institute has named Jennifer S. Choi as chief counsel of ICI Global.

ICI Global is the program through which the Investment Company Institute (ICI) conducts its international work. Choi has held several international roles within ICI, most recently as associate general counsel for global capital markets policy. She served as ICI’s associate counsel for international policy from 1999 to 2005. Choi also spent four years in an international policy role at the Investment Adviser Association.

As chief counsel, Choi will help lead the Institute’s global policy work on cross-border legal and regulatory matters affecting ICI and its members. She will report to ICI Global Managing Director Dan Waters. Choi will be based in Washington, DC, traveling frequently to ICI Global’s London and Hong Kong offices, and will serve as a member of ICI’s senior management.

“Jennifer is a strong leader and a critical thinker with a deep understanding of our membership and the most pressing issues they face on a global scale,” said Waters. “Recently, she played a crucial role in the industry’s preparation for MiFID II, including resolution of regulatory conflicts around cross-border compliance with research payments. Her expertise and professionalism will be an asset as we deepen the Institute’s global policy engagement.”

Before joining ICI in 1999, Choi worked at the US Securities and Exchange Commission, including as an assistant director in the Division of Investment Management in the Office of Disclosure Regulation, and as special counsel for the task force on investment adviser registration. She also served as special counsel in the Division of Market Regulation (now the Division of Trading and Markets) in the Office of Market Supervision. Choi began her legal career as an associate at Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering.

A native of Los Angeles, Choi holds a BS in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from the George Washington University National Law Center.

Choi succeeds Susan Olson, who was appointed ICI general counsel on 28 November 2017. Her appointment to ICI Global chief counsel is effective 11 December 2017.
