ICI, ICIEF Support “America Saves Week” to Promote Financial Literacy and Planning
Washington, DC; February 25, 2019—The Investment Company Institute (ICI) and the ICI Education Foundation (ICIEF) today heralded the start of “America Saves Week 2019,” an annual campaign that encourages individuals to plan for and implement strategies to reach savings and other financial goals. Corporate, nonprofit, and government entities nationwide celebrate America Saves Week, which runs from February 25 to March 2.
“America Saves Week is a great opportunity to evaluate your financial goals and develop practical strategies to help you accomplish those goals,” said Sarah Holden, ICI’s senior director of retirement and investor research. “Whether saving for a home, school tuition, retirement, or a rainy day, there are many options available to help you get on the path to reach your financial goals.”
Americans Express Confidence in Defined Contribution Plans to Meet Savings Goals
One savings option that is helping millions of Americans prepare for a secure retirement is the workplace defined contribution (DC) plan. More than three-quarters of Americans have expressed confidence in the ability of 401(k)s and other DC retirement accounts to help people achieve their retirement goals. Among those who own a DC account, more than nine in 10 agreed that employer-sponsored retirement plans help them think about the long term, and made it easier for them to save. Another popular option to save for retirement is the individual retirement account (IRA), which offers the opportunity for contributions and the consolidation of rollovers.
Resources Abound for Achieving Financial Goals
“Maximize your ability to save by making informed decisions and setting achievable goals,” said ICI Education Foundation Vice President Tina Kilroy. “ICIEF offers a wealth of resources for savers and investors looking for information to help them achieve their financial goals.”
