ICI Mourns the Passing of Former Chairman John F. “Jack” Cogan Jr.

Washington, DC; January 28, 2020—Paul Schott Stevens, president and CEO of the Investment Company Institute, issued the following statement on the death of John F. “Jack” Cogan Jr., former chairman of the Institute (1978 and 1979) and chairman emeritus of Amundi Pioneer Investment Management USA, Inc.:

“As the longest-serving member of ICI’s Board of Governors, Jack Cogan was a powerful voice for effective regulation and strong service to the 100 million Americans who invest in regulated funds. His wisdom, long experience, and breadth of knowledge carried enormous weight with his peers, and on many occasions a few words from Jack could clarify the thorniest of issues and show the way forward. In his unfailing commitment to the interests of shareholders and the fund industry as a whole, Jack embodied the highest fiduciary ideals of investment management.”

Note to Editors: John F. Cogan Jr. served on ICI’s Board of Governors from October 1971 until his retirement in January 2014 (42 years). He served on the board’s Executive Committee from October 1976 to January 2014. He was chairman of ICI for fiscal years 1978 and 1979 (October 1977–September 1979).
